About Headstone Designer
Headstone Designer is a free way to design a headstone online. You choose a stone, type the names, the dates and a line of words, add a symbol, and the letters appear where they would be cut, with their sizes in inches. When it looks right, you send a link to your monument company.
Who it is for
It is for families choosing a headstone, often not long after a loss, and often on a phone. It asks one plain question at a time, and the words and the symbol can be skipped. It is also for monument companies, the local businesses that make and set the stones: they open the family’s link and see the stone from the front and both sides, with every line written out.
What it costs, and who pays
It is free for families, and there is no account. Monument companies pay to put the same designer on their own website, with their own stones, so families can send them finished designs. That is how the site is paid for. You can read how it works on the monument companies page.
We do not sell headstones, and nothing is ordered here. The price, the final proof and the carving stay with your monument company, and nothing is cut until they confirm every letter with you.
About the stones
The twelve stones in the studio are demonstration pictures, not photographs of stones for sale. Their sizes are estimates, and so are the letter heights worked out from them. Your monument company matches your wording to the stone you choose with them and measures it before anything is made.
How we check what we write
Our guides answer the questions people search for when they choose a headstone. Prices, sizes and rules come from published sources that we read before writing, and each guide lists its sources at the end. The headstone cost guide links every price to the price list or guide it came from. Every Bible verse in headstone sayings was checked word for word against Bible Gateway. When a figure is our own, like the size of a sample stone, we say so.
Your privacy, in short
Typing in the studio sends nothing. Your design is kept in your own browser, and a design link carries the design inside the link itself, so we do not store it. We only receive what you choose to send through a form. We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to see how the site is used, and the names and words on a stone never reach either of them.
